Mobile Fronthaul over APN PoC  Step 2-1

Anritsu, Nokia, and NTT have completed a technology demonstration following the PoC Reference for Mobile Fronthaul over APN Version 2.0. We applied APN to the mobile fronthaul between RU and DU to switch vDU sites according to day and night traffic variations to save power. This corresponds to Step 2-1 in the reference.

In this report, we detail the process of dynamically switching the mobile fronthaul using APN, including the need to switch RUs on the DU side. We clearly outline the established procedures, communication impact, and required time.

Additionally, we describe the testing environment, PoC scenarios, communication quality, and power measurement data according to the PoC Reference’s Measuring and Evaluation Methods.

Finally, we discuss the findings, noting that currently neither APN nor RAN procedures are standardized, affecting communication. We highlight areas for technical improvement in collaboration with standardization bodies, providing insights in the sections on Findings Details, Lessons Learnt, and Recommendations.
