New Membership Class Supports Engagement And Collaboration With Distinguished Academic And Research Institutions

Wakefield, MA – December 22, 2020 – The Innovative Optical and Wireless Network Global Forum (IOWN GF) announced today a new non-profit Academic and Research Membership Class. The new membership class will allow for a deeper technical engagement between IOWN GF and distinguished research organizations to help define the next-generation communications infrastructure.  Membership is open to any non-profit entity that is organized and operated as an educational entity or a research organization.  IOWN GF will now offer three levels of membership: Sponsor, General and Academic and Research.  Organizations are invited to join whichever class they qualify for that is a best fit for their organization.

“We are pleased to announce this new membership class will enable IOWN GF to partner with Academia and non-profit R&D institutions who possess a great deal of technical expertise,” said Katsuhiko Kawazoe, Ph.D., president and chairperson of the board, IOWN Global Forum, Inc. “It is our belief that the collaboration with the new members will even more stimulate discussions on emerging technologies that will realize the information and communication infrastructure of the future envisioned by the IOWN GF and the further development of use cases.”

The IOWN GF’s first deliverables are scheduled for publication early next year.  As part of the preparations, IOWN GF held its first member meeting in September with over 300 participants joining sessions of its Technology and Use Case Working Groups.

IOWN GF will bring together all photonics network technologies including silicon photonics, edge computing, dynamic computing scaling and wireless distributed computing to meet future global data and computing requirements. Working Groups of IOWN GF are discussing diverse IOWN themes such as Cyber Physical System, AI-integrated Communications, Open-APN (All-Photonics-Network) and Data Centric Computing. The hope is to create a smarter world where technology is available seamlessly, enabling a myriad of use cases in everything from education, health care, power management, smart manufacturing and more.
